“The stocks: the Boy in the Center has his Head Locked in”, image circa 1912. The photograph depicts a “cepo”, a wooden contraption in which many indigenous people were whipped, tortured, starved and often killed in during the Putumayo genocide.

On October 31st of 1910, Roger Casement secured the liberty of two individuals who were enslaved by the Peruvian Amazon Company during the Putumayo genocide. The testimony of those two individuals, Arédomi and Humurummy, was published in 1911 under the headline "Inferno In A Paradise".

Some of the only known photographs of Muinane, Nonuya and Resígaro peoples, taken during the height of the Putumayo genocide. Today, there are around 150 speakers of the Muinane language, while there are only two native speakers of Nonuya and one surviving speaker of the Resígaro language.

Photographs from the territory of Carlos Scharff, “the most notorious of all [Peruvian] rubber gatherers in the Upper Amazon region.” In September of 1909, newspapers reported that Scharff was killed by his own workers in a mutiny.

On September 23-24 of 1903, between twenty-five and forty members of the Ocaina population were tortured and killed at La Chorrera, a rubber collecting agency, during one of the Putumayo genocide’s “principal massacres”.
