This painting was produced by Santiago Yahuarcani as a part of an art series named “Castigos del caucho”, and it is based on an oral recollection of a crime perpetrated by Armando Normand at the Matanzas rubber station. This crime was also reported by two eyewitnesses in 1907 and 1910.
