May 21 is Circassian Day of Mourning. In the 1860s, a forgotten genocide killed up to 1.5 million Circassians and a million were expelled. As little as 3% survived and continued living in the area. Their descendants mostly live outside their homeland. Only Georgia and Ukraine recognize it officially
