In 1978, the Jonestown Massacre claimed 918 lives in Guyana. Jim Jones, leader of the Peoples Temple, a cult promising equality and utopia, ordered followers, including 305 children, to drink cyanide-laced Flavor Aid. Armed guards enforced it after his men killed Congressman Leo Ryan at an airstrip.
